Memphis returns to the diamond after a 9-6 setback against No. 21 Ole Miss in midweek action. The weekend matchup marks the Tigers' second AAC series of the season. Despite dropping the first two games at Wichita State last weekend, the Tigers salvage the series with a 6-3 win against the Shockers on Sunday.
Through one weekend of league play, Memphis ranks third in The American in batting average. Senior Keith Stepter drove in five runs in last weekend's series, which was the second-most across the league.
On the mound, Memphis continues to own an impressive mark in the strikeout department. After setting a program-record with 484 strikeouts last season, the Tigers have collected 239 through 23 games this season. The team's 10.6 strikeouts-per-nine-innings ratio ranks eighth nationally.
The Cougars visit Memphis after a pair of midweek wins against Sam Houston State and Stephen F. Austin. Houston dropped two of three against UConn at home last weekend to open league action.
