Softball Falls at Ole Miss Wednesday

OXFORD, Miss. – The University of Memphis softball team suffered a 7-0 setback to SEC foe Ole Miss Wednesday afternoon in Oxford, Miss. Memphis' winning streak was snapped at seven games as the Tigers fall to 12-10 on the year.

Memphis has a quick turnaround as it hosts the Tiger Classic this weekend at the Tigers Softball Complex.

Delaney Smith led the game off strong with a lead-off single through the left side. Smith's hit, however, proved to be the only one of the contest for the Tigers. Memphis did reach base by way of walks, five of them, including three in the top of the sixth to load the bases. Untimely strikeouts affected Memphis as the Tigers were unable to capitalize on the Ole Miss pitching miscues.

Ole Miss scored all but one of its runs in the bottom of the second inning. After drawing a lead-off walk and hit by pitch, the Rebels strung together six hits to drive in seven runs.

The Rebels then tacked on the game-ending run in the bottom of the sixth with a double to left center. Mariah Nichols was dealt the loss after throwing 1.1 innings for the Tigers. In all, Memphis allowed eight hits by the Rebels.
