Home stand continues for women's tennis

Tigers welcome UConn, Lipscomb for weekend matches
MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Continuing its four-match home stand, the Memphis women's tennis team welcomes UConn and Lipscomb to the Racquet Club of Memphis this weekend.
The Tigers will face league foe UConn on Friday at 5 p.m. before capping the weekend against Lipscomb on Sunday at 10 a.m. Free pizza and drinks will be served at Friday's match. Admission is free to all UofM home tennis matches.
In their last outing, the Tigers (3-5) turned in a 6-1 victory against Big Ten foe Minnesota. After etching its second doubles point of the season, Memphis found five singles wins to secure the match.
Sophomores Laura Bente and Lina Hohnhold turned in a pair of victories against the Gophers, starting with a 7-5 win in doubles. Bente then collected a straight-set decision in singles, while Hohnhold posted a three-set triumph. Sophomore Alisha Reayer also enjoyed a 2-0 day. After helping clinch the opening doubles point, the Reading, England native posted a 6-3, 4-6, 6-2 win in singles.
Prior to having its most recent match postponed, UConn (2-4) split a pair of contests against Michigan State and Detroit Mercy two weeks ago. Jacquelyn Fitz-Randolph anchors the top spot for the Huskies with a 1-4 record. Julieanne Bou, who has spent time at the No. 2 and No. 3 positions, holds a 3-1 record and a two-match win streak.
Lipscomb (6-2) makes its trek down I-40 having won six of its last seven contests, including its previous two matches. Vika Dzyuba is 4-1 in dual-match play with all decisions coming from the top of the lineup. Kate Popova is 5-0 at No. 2 for the Bison.
