The Tigers head to Connecticut after claiming a road victory against Tulane on Saturday. The 65-59 win featured a 20-point, 10-rebound double-double from Alana Davis, her ninth of the season. Jamirah Shutes chipped in 19 points and a career-high five assists. Tulane, who boasts the fifth-lowest three-point percentage allowed in the country at 25.3 percent, gave up five three-pointers to the Tigers, who shot 33 percent on the game.
Shutes and Davis continue to pace the Tigers in scoring with 13.9 and 12.5 points per game, respectively. Shutes ranks 6th among all players and first among conference freshmen in scoring. Davis, the second leading scorer on the team, is 13th in the AAC in scoring. Davis also scores with the third-highest field goal percentage in the conference at 53.2 percent.
After notching double-digit rebounds for the 13th time this season, Davis is now averaging 8.3 boards a game, a total that ranks fourth in the AAC. Davis has been a crucial piece down low for Memphis, fighting hard to earn the Tigers extra possessions on the offensive glass. She ranks second in the conference pulling down 4.0 offensive rebounds per contest.
Defensively, Memphis ranks as one of the toughest teams to shoot the three against. The Tigers allow the 14th lowest three-point percentage in the country and the second lowest in the American at just 27 percent shooting. Memphis has held 10 teams under 25 percent shooting from beyond the arc this season.
Scouting the Huskies
Memphis heads to Connecticut to face #3/4 UConn, who defeated UCF in its last outing. The Huskies claimed the 78-41 victory in Orlando with an efficient 18 points and 11 rebounds from Napheesa Collier. Katie Lou Samuelson added 12 points, all coming from the free throw line. Five Huskies scored in double-figures against UCF.
UConn boasts two of the conference's top-three scorers in Collier and Samuelson. Collier leads The American with 19.8 points per contest, while Samuelson ranks third with 19.0 points per game. The starting five for the Huskies rank in the top-20 in the conference in scoring. Collier also leads The American in rebounding, pulling down 10.2 boards per game.
The Tigers and the Huskies have faced off nine times, with all contests coming as members of The American. Memphis is still looking for its first win over UConn.
