Tigers fall in series finale

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Memphis baseball dropped a rubber game decision against Indiana Sunday afternoon at FedExPark.
Despite outhitting the Hoosiers, Memphis (1-2) couldn't find the timely hit needed in a 6-0 setback.
"We didn't grab the RBI moments today, and that was the difference," Head Coach Daron Schoenrock said. "I think with our starting pitching and our bullpen, our stuff is going to play. There are weapons in our staff. That game was played in a couple moments we didn't capitalize on, and then any time we made one little mistake, Indiana took advantage of them."
The Hoosiers (2-1) grabbed the early momentum in the first inning with a leadoff home run. Despite the early swing, junior Chris Durham settled in, surrendering just two hits and striking out seven over the first five innings.
Memphis found perhaps its best opportunity to respond in the fourth inning after sophomore Ben Brooks and junior Alec Trela led off the frame with back-to-back hits, but Indiana survived the inning unscathed.
The Hoosier extended their lead in the sixth inning with a pair of runs and then added three more in the eighth to set the 6-0 final.
Offensively, Brooks and Trela each posted a pair of hits on the day. Senior Keith Stepter also added a double.
Memphis will return to the diamond Wednesday against Murray State. First pitch from FedExPark is set for 3 p.m.
