Tigers String Together Back-To-Back Shutouts in Florida

FORT MYERS, Fla. – The University of Memphis softball team put together back-to-back shutout victories at the FGCU Invitational Saturday to improve to 5-3 overall this season. Memphis opened the day with a 6-0 win over FIU before defeating Lamar 3-0 in game two of the day.
Karli Perque and Madalyn Alexander each earned victories in the circle for Memphis while Baylee Smith continued to have a strong showing at the plate. Smith went 4-for-5 with three extra base hits and three runs driven in.
The Tigers scored early and often against FIU in game one. Delaney Smith crossed home plate first against the Panthers and finished the day with two runs scored. The duo of Perque and Bayleigh Wisher allowed just three Panther hits in Memphis' second shutout of the season.
Memphis started the Lamar contest scoreless for the first two innings before putting together all three runs in the third and the fourth. Ashley Threatt and Sara Ann Davidson stepped up offensively for Memphis with two hits each.
Alexander held Lamar to just one hit in 5.0 innings of work in her first start of the season. Mariah Nichols came in and picked up her first save of the season in 2.0 innings. The two struck out a pair and allowed just three hits.
Game 1 Scoring
Memphis 6, FIU 0
Top 1 – Delaney Smith led the inning off by reaching base on a fielding error by FIU. She scored on a stolen base play two batters later. A triple to right field by Baylee Smith drove in Samantha Ibison for the second run of the inning. (2 runs, 2 hits, 1 error, 1 left on base)
Top 3 – Delaney Smith singled through the right side to lead off the inning. After stealing second and third, she scored on a sacrifice fly by Regan Hadley. Baylee Smith doubled to right center to drive in Gracie Morton, who reached by getting hit by a pitch. (2 runs, 2 hits, 0 errors, 2 left on base)
Top 6 – Baylee Smith registered her third hit of the game to lead off the inning. A single through the right side two batters later by Alyssa Dean scored Smith. (1 run, 2 hits, 0 errors, 0 left on base)
Top 7 – Sara Ann Davidson joined in on the hitting fun with a lead-off double in the seventh. A sacrifice bunt and an infield single by Ibison advanced Davidson to third before she scored on a sacrifice fly by Morton. (1 run, 2 hits, 0 errors, 1 left on base)

Memphis 3, Lamar 0
Bottom 3 – Sara Ann Davidson led the inning off with a double down the left field line. She scored on Baylee Smith's second triple of the game. (1 run, 2 hits, 0 errors, 1 left on base)
Bottom 4 – With one out, Regan Hadley doubled to left center and advanced to third on Xiomara Santiago's first hit of the season. Davidson registered her second hit of the game to score Hadley. An RBI single to left field by Delaney Smith put the Tigers up 3-0. (2 runs, 4 hits, 0 errors, 2 left on base)
