Women's basketball travels to Tulsa for first road AAC game

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The Memphis women's basketball team travels to Tulsa, Oklahoma to take on its first road game of American Athletic Conference play. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m., on Wednesday night.

Memphis prepares for its first conference road trip after dropping its conference opener to UCF on Saturday. After a sluggish first half, the Tigers rebounded to outscore the Knights in the second half, but it was ultimately not enough to overcome the early struggles. Taylor Barnes led the team with 12 points and five assists, and was one of three Tigers to net double-figures.
Jamirah Shutes, who also scored double-digit points in the game, leads the team in scoring with 13.8 points per game. Her scoring output ranks eighth in The American, and first among league freshmen. Alana Davis is second on the team, netting 12.2 points per contest. Davis does so shooting the sixth-best field goal percentage in the conference, shooting 53 percent on the season.
Davis ranks at the top of the team in rebounding, pulling down 8.9 boards per contest. Nationally, Davis ranks ninth in the country on the offensive glass, picking up 4.4 offensive rebounds each contest.
Scouting the Golden Hurricane
Tulsa hosts the Tigers after claiming victory in its opening game of AAC play on Friday, winning with a 63-49 margin against Wichita State. Four players for the Golden Hurricane scored in double-figures, led by Kendrian Elliot's 17 points off the bench.
The Golden Hurricane boast three members scoring in double-digits each game, with Crystal Polk leading the way at 13.6 points per game. Polk also leads the team in rebounds, pulling down 7.4 per game.
Tulsa has a strength in forcing turnovers, having forced its opponents into 231 turnovers. The Golden Hurricane's +2.07 turnover margin is the fifth best mark in The American.
All-time, Memphis and Tulsa have faced off 18 times, with each program winning nine games. Most recently, the Tigers won the previous two games during the 2017-18 season, and have won three of the last five matchups.
