The Tigers return home after dropping an 80-56 contest to Cincinnati last Saturday. After winning three-straight conference games, the win streak was snapped at the hands of the Bearcats. Kiana Coomber led the team in scoring for the first time this season, netting 11 points.
Memphis' leading scorer is Jamirah Shutes, who scores 12.8 points per contest. Shutes has the 15th highest scoring average in the American Athletic Conference. With 218 points on the season, she sits just 84 points outside the top 10 freshmen scorers in program history. With 10 regular season games left, Shutes only needs to average 8.4 points per game to crack the top 10.
Close behind her is Alana Davis, scoring 12.3 points per game, which ranks 17th in The American. Davis was named to the AAC Weekly Honor Roll for her performances last week, earning the Tigers a 1-1 record, scoring 21 points and grabbing seven rebounds.
On the season, Davis leads Memphis on the glass, snaring 8.0 boards per game. Her rebounding totals rank fourth in The American. The sophomore is tops in the conference at grabbing offensive rebounds, corralling four per game.
Brianna Porter leads the team in blocked shots, rejecting a career-high 17 on the season. Earlier in the season, Porter went on a four-game streak of blocking at least two shots each game, culminating in a three-block effort against Samford.
Three-time AAC Honor Roll recipient Taylor Barnes tops the team in assists and steals. Barnes has dished out 66 helpers while coming away with 33 swipes on the year. Her assist-to-turnover ratio ranks 10th in The American, and her thievery ranks sixth in the AAC.
Scouting the Green Wave
Tulane comes to Memphis on a three-game slide, dropping its last contest to Wichita State. Krystal Freeman scored 12 points in the 62-44 loss on Saturday.
Freeman leads the Green Wave in scoring, averaging 12.9 points per game, the 12th highest average in the conference. She also leads the team in rebounding, hauling in 6.7 per contest. On January 5th, Freeman grabbed 20 rebounds against ECU, coming up just short of the 21 rebounds that marks the school's record.
As a squad, the Green Wave connect on 34.5 percent of their three-pointers, nearly 10 percent higher than Tulane allows its opponents to shoot.
The Tigers and Green Wave will square off for the 48th time on Wednesday. Memphis currently holds a 27-20 series advantage. Memphis defeated Tulane in the regular season matchup dressing only five players, winning at the Elma Roane Fieldhouse 73-60, before the Green Wave had its revenge in the American Athletic Conference Championship, knocking out Memphis 76-64.
