Tigers Drop Overtime Contest To Tulane, 62-61

Davis finishes with seventh double-double; Herndon pulls down career-high 12 rebounds
MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Memphis women's basketball dropped a heart-breaker to Tulane on Wednesday night, falling 62-61 in overtime. The Tigers fall to 8-12 overall and 3-4 in American Athletic Conference play.

After coming back from a 15-point deficit, the Tigers were unable to finish off the comeback, led by Alana Davis' 14 points and 12 rebounds off of the bench.

The evening began with a pair of runs in the first quarter. Memphis jumped out to a 4-0 lead on a pair of layups before surrendering back-to-back scores from Tulane, who took a 5-4 lead into the media timeout. The squads went back-and-forth for the remainder of the quarter, with Brianna Porter reaching a season-high six points, resulting in an 11-10 lead for Memphis.

Tulane found its rhythm in the second quarter of action, shooting 61 percent in the quarter. The Tigers were unable to keep up, and trailed 38-25 at the half. Memphis was able to find its way to the free throw line, but had trouble scoring with consistency.

Coming out of halftime, the defensive intensity of the Tigers soared, allowing Memphis to go on a 14-5 run to close the gap to three, at which point Tulane led 43-40 with 1:26 left in the third quarter. The Green Wave would extend the lead to eight by the end of the quarter, but the momentum was all Memphis. The teams entered the final frame with a 48-40 score.

Memphis continued its torrid comeback attempt into the fourth quarter, using a 11-3 run to take the lead. Jamirah Shutes, who had been held to a minimal contribution on the offensive side, came alive during the run, scoring five consecutive points that gave Memphis a 53-52 lead.

After taking the lead, Barnes hit three free throws, but Tulane was able to fight back and tie the game at the buzzer, sending the game into overtime.

After exchanging three-point plays, Tulane hit another three-pointer to take a three-point advantage. After scoring a basket, Memphis was unable to connect on a game-winner, dropping the contest 62-61.
