Trosclair Klatt Breaks Hit Record In 1-0 Shutout Over UConn
Apr 20, 2018 | Softball
Brooke Lee’s sixth home run of the season was the deciding factor in the game
MEMPHIS, Tenn. – A solo home run in the bottom of the fourth inning by Brooke Lee proved to be the only score of the contest, as the University of Memphis softball team downed UConn Friday evening by a score of 1-0. Memphis improved to 32-15 on the year and 7-6 in American Athletic Conference play.
Â
In addition to inching closer to the all-time record for wins in a single-season, another record was broken Friday evening at the Tigers Softball Complex. With a single up the middle in the third inning, Kyler Trosclair Klatt recorded her 238th career hit at Memphis. Lindsay Crowdus set the previous record in 2017.
Â
Molly Smith started the night off in strong fashion with three straight strikeouts in the top of the first inning. UConn threatened to score multiple times throughout the contest, but tough defense including a timely double play from centerfield by Delaney Smith kept the Huskies from getting on the board.
Â
In the bottom of the fourth inning, Brooke Lee drove a 1-0 pitch to right field for her team-leading sixth home run of the season. Her solo shot proved to be the only run in the contest.
Â
Smith won her 20th game in the circle with five strikeouts in 5.0 innings of work. Mariah Nichols came in relief in the top of the sixth inning for Smith and walked away with her third save of the evening.Â
