Memphis and ECU are meeting for the fourth-consecutive season as members of the American Athletic Conference. The teams also played annually from 2002-13 as C-USA members. East Carolina joined the American for the 2014-15 academic year.
The Tigers and Pirates are 5-5 against each other as members of the American. Memphis won its first ever series over ECU in Greenville, N.C. in 2015. Memphis has lost the last two series to ECU, but did eliminate the Pirates from the conference tournament in 2016.
Memphis has not won a home series over ECU since a sweep of the Pirates in 2006.
Memphis head coach Daron Schoenrock picked up a milestone victory with the April 18 win over Mississippi State. The win was the 400th of his career.
The weather has consistently impacted the Tigers' weekend schedule at FedExPark this season. Memphis has been forced to adjust start times in four-of-five series and has played three weekend double headers. The Tigers have also had to adjust on the road, with several changes to the Tri-Star Classic schedule as well as a time change at Cincinnati.
The Tigers are in the midst of a season-long homestand, playing seven-straight home games starting with last week's Baylor series and ending with a three-game series with ECU this weekend. Memphis hosts back-to-back weekend series at FedExPark for the first time since February.
With back-to-back wins over Arkansas State last week, Memphis has only won two-straight games on three occasions this season. This is the first time since 2005 that the Tigers have failed to win at least three-straight games during the first nine weeks of the season. The 2005 team went the entire season without a winning streak.
The Tigers leading hitter, senior outfielder Tyler Webb is top-25 in the NCAA with 15 doubles. Webb is batting .313 with a team-high 20 runs scored. His 19 RBI are the third-most on the team.
