Tigers place fourth in Ryman Hospitality Intercollegiate

UofM earns second top five finish of the spring
NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Led by Brad Bawden's 2-under 69, the University of Memphis men's golf team closed with a solid showing in Tuesday's final round of the Ryman Hospitality Intercollegiate.

Memphis fired a 4-over 288 at Richland Country Club and secured a fourth-place finish, the UofM's second top five showing of the spring. Rice, which led by nine strokes after the opening two rounds, held on to win the tournament with an 8-over 860. Host Lipscomb grabbed second place at 865 by firing the best team score, a 1-over 285.

Rice's Mitchell Meissner and Lipscomb's Dawson Armstrong shared top individual honors with 5-under 208s. Armstrong closed with an 8-under 63, the best round of the event.

Junior Chase Harris, from Jackson, Tenn., paced the Tigers for the second straight tournament. He closed with a 1-under 70 to finish at 3-under 210. Harris overcame a double-bogey on the front nine and had birdies at Nos. 10, 11, 15 and 18 on the back nine to post his 70.

Rodi Vlasveld finished 11 strokes behind Harris after shooting 79 for 221. Brad Bawden had the best final round among the UofM contingent. He shot 2-under 69 for 224. Bawden's round was marked by consistent play and included birdies at Nos. 7, 13 and 18. His only blemish was a bogey at the par-3 11th hole.

Jordan Even (75-228) and Borja Martin (74-229) closed out the scoring for Memphis. Nick Giles, competing as an individual, shot 79 for 227.

The Tigers close the regular season at the Old Waverly Intercollegiate April 16 and 17 in West Point, Miss. Memphis participates in the American Athletic Conference Championship April 22-24 at Palm Harbor, Fla., with the winner earning an automatic berth in the NCAA tournament.
