Tigers Finish Ninth at Johnnie-O at Sea Island

ST. SIMONS ISLAND, Ga. – Memphis men's golf closed play at the Johnnie-O at Sea Island with a ninth-place finish in a competitive 15-team field Tuesday, posting a three-round total of 20-under par at the par-72, 7,060-yard layout.
The Tigers opened the tournament with a strong 10-under round, followed by a 3-under second round and a 7-under final round to finish at -20 for the event. Memphis finished ahead of Nebraska and several nationally recognized programs in a field that included ranked teams such as No. 23 Notre Dame, No. 42 Kansas and No. 44 West Virginia.
Georgia Southern and Florida Gulf Coast shared the team title at 42-under, while Minnesota and Kansas tied for third at 39-under.
Junior Diego Lourenco paced the Tigers, carding 9-under par to lead Memphis with a 12th-place finish. Lourenco opened with a 66 (-6) in the first round and followed with rounds of 70 and 71 to stay near the top of the leaderboard throughout the tournament. He also ranked third in the field with 19 birdies over the three rounds.
Yixiang Wang added a strong showing at 5-under par, including a 3-under 69 in the final round to climb the leaderboard.
Cian O'Connor finished 4-under, highlighted by consecutive 69s in rounds two and three to close the tournament.
Christian Morneau carded a 1-under total, while Tobey Kim rounded out the Memphis lineup.
As a team, Memphis was consistent throughout the event, finishing second in the field with 176 pars and ranking fourth in par-3 scoring (3.07 average).
The Tigers will return to action later this month as they host the Memphis Intercollegiate: Spirited by Old Dominick on March 30-31.
