Memphis and Little Rock to Play Doubleheader Friday at 1 p.m.
Mar 08, 2018 | Baseball
MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Due to the weekend weather forecast in the MidSouth, Memphis and Little Rock will start the weekend series with a doubleheader Friday at 1 p.m. at FedExPark.
The Tigers (5-8) and Trojans (6-7) will continue the series on Saturday as weather allows. A game time will be set pending weather and field conditions.
Memphis returns to FedExPark to host Little Rock for the first time since the 2006 season. The Tigers and Trojans have not played in a weekend series since 1985. Memphis holds a 39-9 edge in the series since 1978.
FedExPark should be a welcome sight for the Tigers this weekend, who are in the midst of playing 12-of-16 games away from home. Memphis will hit the road again next Tuesday to travel to Auburn for a midweek contest on March 14, before going on to North Florida for a three-game series.
The Tigers have been unable to get a winning-streak started so far this season, winning back-to-back games only once this season. This is the first time since 2012 that the Tigers have failed to win at least three-straight games during the first three weeks of the season.
So far this season, the Tigers' pitching staff has compiled an earned run average under 4.00. If Memphis can keep its ERA under 4.00, it would be the first time since 2015 to do so. The last two seasons Memphis has had a staff ERA over 5.00.
Memphis does not have a save through the first 13 games of the season. The last time the Tigers went through the first 13 games of the season without a save was the 2010 season. Memphis did not record its first save until the 17th game of the 2010 season, when Dan Langfield closed out a 5-3 win over South Alabama.
Junior lefty Hunter Smith has been the Tigers' most reliable bullpen arm so far this season, pitching seven times and allowing just one run over 13.2 innings. Smith has struck out 17 and walked just two. He owns a 1-0 record and an 0.66 ERA.
Outfielder Tyler Webb is the Tigers' leading hitter with a .340 average in 12 starts. He has 16 hits, five doubles and a home run. His .436 on-base percentage is also the best on the team.
Newcomer Kyle Ouellette is the team's second-leading hitter with a .333 batting average in 13 games played. Ouellette, a transfer from Walters State, leads the team with 10 RBI and is the only Tiger with double-digit RBI.
