Molly Smith registers a career-high 15 strikeouts in the win over Ball State
Â
"I'm really proud of us for coming out today and getting two wins against good opponents," said head coach Natalie Poole. "We were productive offensively not only from our lefties, but our righties as well. I'm proud of the collective team effort."
Â
The offense was highlighted in game one as the Tigers registered three triples and two doubles en route to the victory. Brooke Lee hit her first collegiate triple in the third inning to score Regan Hadley, who also recorded a triple earlier in the game. Kyler Trosclair Klatt recorded triples in both games to lead Memphis in that category.
Â
Mariah Nichols earned her first career start against the Hoyas and pitched a complete game with a strikeout.
Â
Memphis went on to register a pair of extra base hits against the Cardinals, but the game was highlighted by a 15-strikeout effort by senior right-handed pitcher Molly Smith. The 15 strikeouts against Ball State was a career-high for the Yamhill, Ore. native and the third most in a game in program history. She allowed just one run in seven innings of work to improve to 1-0 on the year.
Â
"Mariah did a great job for her first appearance as a freshman. Molly then came out and although she allowed base runners late, she came up clutch in those situations by working her way out of tough scenarios," added Poole.
