MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Following a top-25 setback, the Memphis men's tennis team seeks to rebound with a match at Cornell Friday.
First serve from Reis Tennis Center in Ithica, N.Y., is slated for 4 p.m. (CT). Friday's match will be the first of two for the Tigers (2-2) this weekend, as Memphis will play Penn State on Saturday neutral site.
Senior Ryan Peniston seeks to improve his solid start to the spring. The Great Britain native checked in at No. 61 in the ITA rankings after two ranked wins and a 3-1 record to start the season.
Fellow seniors Andrew Watson and Kai Lemke also seek to build on solid performances last weekend, as the duo took straight-set decisions against the Red Raiders at the No. 2 and No. 3 positions.
Cornell (1-2) is also seeking to bounce back after losing a pair of road matches last weekend. The Big Red dropped a 4-2 effort at Ole Miss and a 4-3 decision against Clemson.
Cornell senior Daniel Grunberger has posted a 3-0 singles record at the No. 4 position. Big Red duos Alafia Ayeni and Evan Bynoe along with Joseph McAllister and David Volfson have combined for a 4-2 ledger in doubles play this spring.
The Tigers lead the all-time series 3-0, including a 4-3 win against the No. 18 Big Red last season in Memphis.
