Softball Heads To Louisiana For The 32nd Annual Louisiana Classic

Four games slated for the Tigers, starting with UMBC at 2 p.m. CT Friday
MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The University of Memphis softball team heads down to Lafayette, La., to wrap up the last road tournament of the season before hosting three tournaments at home. The Tigers will face four teams during the 32nd Annual Louisiana Classic, UMBC, North Florida, Southeastern Louisiana, and UL Lafayette.

First pitch against UMBC on Friday afternoon is set for 2:00 p.m. CT at Lamson Park in Lafayette, La. The Tigers will compete twice on Saturday, against North Florida and Southeastern Louisiana, and finish up the weekend with a Sunday morning game against UL Lafayette. - Senior shortstop Kyler Trosclair Klatt leads the Tigers with 10 hits, including four triples on the year.

- After going 23-27 last season, the Retrievers of UMBC have started 1-4 in head coach Heather Gelbard's second season at the helm.
- Four Retrievers have hit extra base hits, including three doubles, two triples, and one home run hit by freshman Sierra Pierce.
- North Florida junior Navia Penrod is hitting .500 through 11 games, collecting 18 hits in 36 at bats.
- The Osprey like to get the runners going, having already successfully swiped 16 bases.
- Southeastern Louisiana has started the season 7-1, with every game being played at its home field.
- After finishing second in the nation in steals per game at 2.95, the Lions are back to the races with 32 swipes through eight games.
- With a 7-2 overall record, UL Lafayette is ranked No. 15 in the USA Today/NFCA DI Top 25 Coaches Poll.
- The Ragin' Cajuns Alissa Dalton and Kara Gremillion lead the team with 15 and 11 hits, respectively, through nine contests.
- UL Lafayette's pitching has held opponents to just a .204 batting average, and the pitching staff have a combined 69 strikeouts on the year.
