Tigers Host Eastern Illinois for Weekend Series

Memphis back at FedExPark for three-game series
MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The Tigers will look to rebound from a hard-fought loss at No. 9 Ole Miss, welcoming Eastern Illinois to FedExPark for a three-game series Friday through Sunday.

Friday, Feb. 23-25 – 4 p.m. | 2p.m. | 1 p.m.

Last weekend, Memphis avoided raindrops en route to a series win that included a Sunday doubleheader split. Memphis welcomes Eastern Illinois to FedExPark for the third time in the last four seasons. The Tigers hosted the Panthers in 2015 and 2016, sweeping EIU in 2015 and winning two-of-three in 2016. Memphis is 17-5 against Eastern Illinois all time.
Former EIU Panther Cale Hennemann, has started the first four games at second base for Memphis this season. A native of Pawnee, Ill., Hennemann spent two seasons playing for the Panthers before transferring to Memphis. He sat out last season after starting 80 games in two seasons at EIU, batting .280 with 50 RBI and 41 runs scored.
Headlined by the starting rotation, Memphis pitching had a strong start to the season. The Tigers recorded the first Opening Day shutout since 2006 and during the weekend allowed just four runs and struck out 30 batters in 27 innings pitched.
Riley Cabral made his debut, starting the season-opener and pitching 5 1/3 scoreless innings with six strikeouts. Jonathan Bowlan was solid in 6 1/3 innings with one unearned run allowed, but was credited with the loss. Alex Hicks finished the weekend with six scoreless innings in the series-clinching win.
Senior outfielder Tyler Webb is leading the way offensively, batting .462 with three doubles early in the season. Webb was named to the American Athletic Conference Weekly Honor Roll after the first weekend of play.
Memphis will remain at home to host Southeast Missouri Tuesday at 4 p.m. before hitting the road for the a weekend at the Tri-Star Classic hosted by the Tennessee Smokies in Kodak, Tenn.
