A seventh-inning rally falls short as Tigers drop to 4-4 on the year
NATCHITOCHES, La. – A seventh-inning bases loaded rally fell short Saturday morning as the University of Memphis softball team fell to Stephen F. Austin by a score of 5-3 at the Lady Demon Classic. Brooke Lee hit two home runs and drove in all three Memphis runs as the Tigers fall to 4-4 on the year.
After getting out of a bases loaded jam in the bottom of the first, Memphis put a run on the board in the next half inning with Lee's first home run of the day.
SFA had an answer in the bottom half of the third and capitalized on three Memphis errors and three hits to score five runs to take over the lead from the Tigers. Just one of the five runs was earned and it proved to be the only frame the Ladyjacks had runners cross the plate.
Before a short rain delay, Lee knocked out her second home run of the day in the top of the fourth to cut SFA's lead down to two, 5-3. Memphis started a rally in the seventh inning, but was unable to score after loading the bases with two outs.
Katie Brignac was handed the loss after coming in relief for Molly Smith. Mariah Nichols also saw action in the game for the final four innings. In addition to Lee, Baylee Smith and Addison Maxwell each recorded two hits for the Tigers.
