SHOAL CREEK, Ala. – The Memphis Tigers closed the day at the 2017 Shoal Creek Intercollegiate with a team score of 281, the lowest single round by a Memphis squad since the 2016 American Athletic Conference Championships' final round.
Memphis' 281 was the second-lowest single round of the tournament, trailing only Ole Miss' 280 in the same round and was 20 strokes better than the team's first round score – the biggest improvement over the two rounds in the field.
Wake Forest leads the field with a two-round total of 567, while Notre Dame (571), UAB (572), and Liberty (573) round out the top four. Ole Miss (576), Georgia Southern (578), North Florida (579), and Kennesaw State (580) round out the teams ahead of the Tigers. Memphis' 582 has them in ninth place overall, with Chattanooga (586), Troy (592), and South Alabama (600) round out the 12 teams in the field.
Brad Bawden's two-round total of 144 (even par) on the 7,306-yard, par-72 Shoal Creek Country Club course has him tied for 15th in the field after rounds of 74 and 70. In his opening round – which started on the seventh hole – he started quickly with two birdies and six pars over his first eight holes. He stumbled over the next seven holes with four bogeys and three pars, before ending the day with three straight pars to close with a two-over 74.
For Bawden's second round he did not spend a single hole over par. He started his second round with four consecutive pars, before a birdie on the par-five 11th hole dropped him to a stroke under par. He recorded a bogey on his next hole – his only bogey on the round. For his last 10 holes he went two strokes under par, including birdies on the 15th and sixth holes.
Three Tigers – Borja Martin, Rodi Vlasveld, and Jordan Even – all ended the first 36 holes with a 146 (+2), and tied for 23rd. Martin and Vlasveld each had rounds of 76 (+4) and 70 (-2), while Even had rounds of 75 (+3) and 71 (-1).

He opened the round with a bogey on the 470-yard, par-four seventh hole, and followed with six consecutive pars to stay at a stroke over par. A bogey on the 14th hole of the course pushed him to two shots over par. He answered quickly with a birdie a hole later on the par-four, 425-yard 15th hole. With birdies on the fourth and fifth holes, and seven pars on the remaining holes, he closed his second round a shot under par with a 71.
