Molly Smith pitches complete game; strikes out six and allows just one earned run
MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The University of Memphis softball team suffered a 2-0 setback to UCF Saturday afternoon at the Tigers Softball Complex. Memphis falls to 23-17 on the year and 4-4 in American Athletic Conference play.
Â
Three errors committed by the Tigers in the first inning led to one UCF run scoring, allowing the Knights to take an early lead. The run by the Knights in the first proved to be all UCF needed to come away with the victory.
Â
In the bottom of the seventh inning, Memphis loaded the bases with no outs after Hannah Harrell got the offense rolling with a leadoff single. An untimely double play, however, combined with a fly ball to right field quickly ended the Tigers hopes of scoring.
Â
Molly Smith pitched a complete game for the Tigers and allowed just six hits and one earned run. She falls to 7-8 on the season.
