Softball Falters At Murray State Wednesday

Tigers unable to overcome three-run first inning by the Racers
MURRAY, Ky. – Three runs in the bottom of the first by Murray State proved to be enough as the University of Memphis softball team fell to the Racers by a score of 3-0 Wednesday evening. The teams were originally scheduled to play in a doubleheader, but weather in the area pushed back the start time and a single game was played.

Memphis falls to 23-20 on the year with a weekend conference series coming up against USF on the road.

Murray State capitalized in the first inning with three runs on four hits and was then held hitless until the bottom of the sixth inning. Memphis recorded four hits in the ball game and struggled to advance a runner beyond first base.

Molly Smith was dealt the loss as she pitched a complete game for Memphis. Two of the runs scored were earned and she struck out three with five hits allowed.

Memphis will now travel to USF this weekend for a three-game conference series. The Tigers and the Bulls will play in a single game on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday with first pitch Friday set for 5:30 p.m. CT. - Lindsay Crowdus, Addison Maxwell, Kyler Trosclair, and Lindsey Stickrod recorded hits for Memphis.
