Eighth inning rally falls short as USF counters with two runs

TAMPA, Fla. – A two-out double by Lindsey Stickrod in the top of the eighth inning drove in the go-ahead run, yet the Bulls answered with two in the bottom half of the inning to defeat Memphis by a score of 4-3 Friday evening. Memphis falls to 23-21 overall and 4-6 in American Athletic Conference play.

Memphis took an early lead in the top of the second as Hannah Harrell drew a walk with the bases loaded and a full count. The Bulls, however, scored two unanswered to take a 2-1 lead going into the sixth inning.

The Tigers proceeded to take advantage of a USF error in the fifth to tie up the contest before Stickrod drove in the go-ahead run in the eighth. Much like Memphis had an answer for USF in the sixth and the eighth, the Bulls answered Stickrod's RBI double with a bases clearing triple in the eighth to win it.

Christian Novak falls to 8-10 on and year with seven strikeouts in eight innings of work.

Notables

Lindsay Crowdus extended her hitting streak to a team-high six games and her on base streak to 10 games.
Lindsey Stickrod had her seventh multi-hit game of the season after driving in the go-ahead run with a double in the top of the eighth.
Katie Brignac came in to pinch hit in the seventh and singled up the middle for her first hit of the season.
This was Memphis' sixth extra inning game this year.
Christian Novak struck out seven in eight innings of work for Memphis.

Top 2 – Lindsey Stickrod and Regan Hadley reached base on a pair of singles. A fielder's choice play loaded the bases and Hannah Harrell drew a bases loaded walk. (1 run, 2 hits, 0 errors, 3 left on base)
Bottom 3 – A double by Kristen Wyckoff led off the inning for USF. She advanced to third on a bunt and scored on a sacrifice fly. (1 run, 2 hits, 0 errors, 0 left on base)
Bottom 5 – A triple by Wychoff led off the inning and she scored on a sacrifice fly. (1 run, 1 hit, 0 errors, 1 left on base)
Top 6 – Lindsay Crowdus led off the inning with a single to second base and she advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by Tyler Johnson. Two batters later, Crowdus scored after advancing on a ground out and a throwing error. (1 run, 1 hit, 1 error, 1 left on base)
Top 8 – A pitch with two outs hit Tyler Johnson before Lindsey Stickrod drove her in with a double to left field. (1 run, 1 hit, 0 errors, 1 left on base)
Bottom 8 – With two outs and runners on first and second, the Bulls tripled up the middle to drive in two runs. (2 runs, 2 hits, 0 errors, 1 left on base)
