EDMOND, Okla. - In strong field that features seven teams ranked inside of the GolfStat Top-50, the Memphis Tigers stand in 14th place in the field, four strokes behind American Athletic Conference foe East Carolina for 13th place.
The Tigers opened the day strong, with a team score of 298, before stumbling in the afternoon 18 holes, carding a team score of 316, giving them their 614. East Carolina stands just ahead of the Tigers with a 610, while 25th ranked Colorado stands 12th with a 604.
The tournament, which is played on the 7,102-yard, par-70 Oak Tree Golf Club East Course, is a unique format, where all five members of the same team play in a group. The Tigers opened play on the sixth hole of the course on the day, with Sydney Chung leading the sway off of the get-go with a birdie - one of two on the day for the senior.
Chung ended his round with two birdies, three bogeys, and 13 pars to finish with a one-over 71 on the round. JC Campbell was within a stroke of even par for nearly the entire round before closing his first round with a bogey to shoot a two-over 72.
Freshman Colin Dubnik led the team in the opening round with six birdies, including four over his first 10 holes on the day; however, his birdie spree was beset by two bogeys and two double-bogeys, as he stood two strokes over par through his first 10 holes. His aggregate score reached as high as six over; however, closed strong with two birdies and a bogey over his final three holes to close the round at five strokes over par. Freshman Nick Giles carded a first-round 80, and Harris an 85 to round out the Tigers' opening 18 holes on the day.
On the second of the two rounds, Memphis struggled out of the gate on the sixth hole with the five players recording four bogeys and one double-bogey. Leading the way on the second round was Giles, who carded a six-over 76, while Chung was just behind on the round with a seven-over 77 after recording a birdie on his final hole of the day.
Campbell carded an 11-over 81 in the second round, with Harris and Dubnik each shooting an 82.
The team returns to action for the third and final round tomorrow at 9 a.m. CT on the 10th hole of the course.
