Memphis falls to 23-19 on the year heading into a bye weekend

OXFORD, Miss. – The University of Memphis softball team suffered a 4-0 setback to No. 22/25 Ole Miss Wednesday night on the road in Oxford, Miss. The Tigers committed untimely errors that led to all four runs being unearned against the Rebels. Memphis falls to 23-19 on the year.

Three hits for the Tigers loaded the bases in the top of the first inning. Memphis, however, was unable to score as Ole Miss managed to force a foul out and a ground out to third base.

The score remained tied at 0-0 until the bottom of the third inning when the Rebels took advantage of a Memphis error on the leadoff batter. Two more runs crossed the plate in fifth, resulting in what proved to be the final scores of the contest.

Notables

Lindsay Crowdus went 3-for-3 against the Rebels to lead Memphis at the plate.
Christian Novak pitched a complete game for Memphis and allowed zero earned runs.
Tyler Johnson extended her hitting streak to six games with a single in the first inning.

Scoring

Bottom 3 – Paige McKinney reached on a fielding error by Tyler Johnson. With two outs and McKinney on second, Kylan Becker singled to centerfield, scoring McKinney. One more run crossed the plate on a triple by Miranda Strother. Both runs were unearned. (2 runs, 2 hits, 1 error, 2 left on base)
Bottom 5 – A single to left field by Elantra Cox resulted in a run scoring on the leadoff batter due to a throwing error. Another run scored when a runner was on second and Sarah Van Schaik singled up the middle. (2 runs, 2 hits, 1 error, 2 left on base)

The Tigers will have the weekend off from action before returning to the diamond next Tuesday on the road against Murray State.
