HOUSTON – The University of Memphis women's tennis team (8-5, 1-0 American) had its five-match winning streak snapped in a 7-0 loss at #38 ranked Rice (9-4), Sunday.

Memphis got the first win of the morning with a 6-2 victory from Gabrielle Paul and Josephine Cao over the number 41 ranked team of Alison Ho and Priya Niezgoda. But Rice got a 6-4 win at one and a 6-2 win at three for the doubles point.

The Owls then used straight set wins at three, five and six to secure the victory with the other two of the other three courts splitting sets. Hanna Sohn won her opening set at two in a tiebreaker, 9-7, then was edged in a super tiebreaker, 12-10, as the teams played out the remaining matches.

Marta Morga came back from a 6-2 first set loss at four to get a 6-3 victory in her second set, but was also downed in a super tiebreak, 10-3.

Memphis will play a pair of matches next weekend in Murfreesboro, Tenn., facing host Middle Tennessee, Friday, at 1 pm, then facing #50 ranked VCU, Saturday at 1 p.m.
