About Memphis
Junior Anki Wind improved to 2-1 at one singles with a match-sealing win in a neutral site match at Chattanooga last weekend, giving her a 13th win on the season. Hanna Sohn is also 2-1 in dual season singles, while twin sisters Katherine and Josephine Cao are still unblemished in singles play since the spring slate has started. Katherine is 3-0 at five singles, while Josephine is 2-0 at six.
Memphis has two doubles tandems that are 3-0. Josephine Cao and Sohn are 3-0 at two, while seniors Marta Morga and Gabrielle Paul are 3-0 at three.
This will be the lone match of the weekend for Memphis, but starts a part of the schedule that is SEC heavy. After Saturday's match with LSU, Memphis will face Missouri next Saturday in Minneapolis, Minn. After a Sunday match against Big 10 host Minnesota, Memphis will then venture just a bit south to play at Ole Miss, Feb. 25.
The Lady Tigers will not play a single match at home in Memphis during the month of February as the ATP Memphis Open has taken over The Racquet Club of Memphis.
About LSU (3-1)
LSU is receiving votes in the ITA women's rankings. The Tigers are looking to bounce back from their first loss of the season, falling to now-number 19 Ole Miss, 4-2, in the ITA Kick Off Weekend at the University of Virginia last week. The loss knocked LSU out of the national rankings and the home Tigers are looking to work their way back, starting against the Memphis version of the Tigers Saturday morning.
In the loss to Ole Miss, freshman Jade Lewis grabbed a straight set win over number 31 ranked Arianne Hartono, 6-3, 6-0, to move to 2-0 at one singles on the year. Teammate Joana Valle Costa is also 2-0 at one singles, but played two in the last outing, falling 6-3, 6-1.
At three, Ryann Foster leads LSU with 15 singles wins on the year. She has earned a number 83 ranking in the singles polls and is a perfect 4-0 in dual season play so far this spring.
On the doubles side, Foster and Valle Costa are 2-1 atop the lineup, while Lewis has teamed with Becca Weissmann for a 2-0 mark at two.
The match against Memphis starts a streak of play against American Athletic Conference foes for LSU. After a non-AAC match against North Sunday, LSU will go on to host USF (Feb. 17) and Houston (Feb. 19), then will play at Tulane (Feb. 22) to close the run of four of the next five against AAC opposition.
This will be the sixth match-up between Memphis and LSU, but the first since 1989. LSU has a 5-0 lead in the overall series. This will be the fifth match in the series to be played in Baton Rouge.
