MEMPHIS – Facing a home standing LSU (4-1) team that had just dropped out of the national rankings, the Memphis women's tennis team (3-1) battled, but fell 5-0, Saturday.
Memphis was without junior Hanna Sohn, which moved the Memphis singles lineup up and forced a doubles lineup change. While the number one team of Anki Wind and Katherine Cao were still united at one doubles and building a 5-3 lead over the number 27 ranked team of Joana Valle Costa and Ryann Foster, freshman Clara Kuehn had to step in to two doubles. LSU took advantage of the new pairing and grabbed a 6-0 win to start the afternoon. The home team then closed out the doubles point with a 6-2 victory at three.
LSU then closed the match out with straight set singles win at one, two, three and six singles for the final 5-0 decision.
The match is one of three SEC teams in Memphis' stint of four matches on the schedule. Memphis will face Missouri in a neutral site match in Minnesota on Saturday, then will face the Big 10 host team on Sunday. That will be followed with a road match at Ole Miss, Feb. 25.
