Tigers Head To The Northeast To Face No. 1 Connecticut

The Tigers will take on UConn just one time during the regular season
MEMPHIS, Tenn. – As the regular season is winding down, the University of Memphis women's basketball team heads to the northeast to take on No. 1 UConn Saturday afternoon. Tip-off against the Huskies is set for 3:30 p.m. CT and will air on ESPN3 and SNY, a local northeast station.

Memphis is 13-14 overall and 6-8 in American Athletic Conference play after falling to SMU Wednesday evening. The Tigers have two games remaining on the regular season schedule before heading to Uncasville, Conn. for The American Championship on March 3-6.

Against SMU, senior guard Taylor Williams made a career-high five three-pointers and scored a team-high 15 points. She now has 95 in her Memphis career which ranks her 10th all-time. While also playing in the game against SMU, Williams has suited up in 120 games in four years for Memphis. This total ranks her 10th in program history.

Cheyenne Creighton eclipsed 200 rebounds this season with seven against SMU. She leads the team in scoring with 14.7 points per game and 7.5 rebounds. She also is the team leader in blocks with 18.

The Tigers are currently sitting in eighth place in the American Athletic Conference standings behind SMU and ahead of Tulsa. Memphis is coached by Melissa McFerrin who is in her ninth season at the helm.

Katie Lou Samuelson leads the team with 20.6 points per game. She has started in every game and is playing in just under 31 minutes per contest. Senior guard Saniya Chong, who has started in 24 games this year, leads the nation with an assist-to-turnover ratio of 4.5/1.

Geno Auriemma is the head coach of the Huskies and is currently in his 32nd season at the helm. Auriemma has racked up 982 victories with Connecticut and only 134 losses. UConn has been the National Champion 11 times including the last four seasons.
