Fourth Quarter Comeback Falls Short As Tigers Fall To Cincinnati

CINCINNATI, Ohio – The University of Memphis women's basketball team suffered a 68-57 setback Saturday afternoon to Cincinnati at the Fifth Third Arena in Cincinnati, Ohio. Memphis falls to 13-13 on the year and 6-7 in American Athletic Conference after dropping its second game to Cincinnati this season.

How It Happened
The first quarter of action between the Tigers and the Bearcats was relatively even as the largest lead for either team was four by the Tigers. Cincinnati had an answer for the Tigers four-point lead to make the game tied at 16-16 at the first quarter break of the game. There were seven lead changes in the first 10 minutes of play.

Prior to the second quarter media timeout, Cincinnati built up a six-point lead over Memphis. The Tigers had an answer themselves with a 7-0 started by a Brea Elmore three-pointer to take what proved to be its final lead of the ball game. The Bearcats ended the first half up five over the visiting Tigers.

The Bearcats opened the third quarter with a 6-2 run to build up a nine-point lead over Memphis.

Down 11 within the first minute and half of the fourth quarter, the Tigers used an 8-0 run to cut the Cincinnati lead back down to three with 4:56 remaining. Cheyenne Creighton registered four points and three rebounds in that span to try and ignite the Tiger offense.

A pair of free throws by Cincinnati with 4:36 to play put the Bearcats back up five, the closest Memphis would come for the remainder of the contest.

After Cincinnati regained the lead in the second quarter on a 5-0 run, Memphis was unable to come any closer than three to the Bearcats.

- Cheyenne Creighton registered her seventh double-double of the season with 21 points and 10 rebounds.
- This is also the sixth time this season Creighton has scored at least 20+-points.
- Brea Elmore hit a three-pointer in the second quarter, making that 18 straight games with a made three.
- Memphis dropped both games to Cincinnati this season; therefore the Bearcats would have the tiebreaker over Memphis if the situation would arise.
- Memphis shot 45.3 percent from the floor, but shot nine less free throws than Cincinnati. The Bearcats made 15 of their 16 free throws.
- Taylor Barnes went 2-for-3 from three to lead the Tigers. She finished with 12 points and a team-high four steals and four assists
