Tigers Return Home To Host Jackson State Tuesday

Memphis will look to win its third-straight after defeating Vanderbilt last weekend
MEMPHIS, Tenn. – After a thrilling 71-60 victory over Vanderbilt last Saturday, the Tigers return home for two more games before the Holiday Break. The University of Memphis women's basketball team kicks off the week with a 6 p.m. game Tuesday night against Jackson State. Tuesday's game is part of the Tiger Toy Drive and any fans who brings a new, unwrapped toy to the game will receive free admission.

Memphis has now won two in a row after handing SEC foe Vanderbilt the loss Saturday night. Senior guard Brea Elmore led the Tigers with 21 points in Memphis' first-ever victory on the road against the Commodores. There are two more games remaining on the non-conference schedule and the Tigers are in position to finish strong into the Holiday Break.
Going into Tuesday's game against Jackson, here are five things to know about the Memphis women's basketball team:
A Look At Jackson State
Jackson State enters into the Tuesday night contest with a 4-3 record after most recently falling to Sam Houston State on Dec. 12. Wins for the Tigers include Millsaps, Illinois-Chicago, Chicago State, and Spring Hill.
Two players are scoring in double-digits for Jackson State, led by Derica Wiggins' 17.9 points per game. Sumer Williams is the team's leading rebounder at 6.1 boards per contest and Christina Ellis, along with Wiggins, lead the team with 23 steals.
The Tigers have a high-paced offense, firing almost 79 shots per contest. Overall, Jackson State is scoring 76.6 points per game at a clip of 37.9 percent from the floor. Surina Dixon is the head coach of Jackson State.
Series History With Jackson State
All-time against Jackson State, Memphis is 7-1 including a perfect 6-0 at home. This is set to be the first meeting against the Tigers since the 2013 season when Memphis won by a score of 77-64 at the Elma Roane Fieldhouse. The only loss against Jackson State for Memphis was during the 1983 season when JSU defeated Memphis State by a 69-67 margin.
Breigha Wilder-Cochran is the only player on Memphis' roster to have played against Jackson State. In 2013, Wilder-Cochran put up five points and seven assists off the bench.

- Brea Elmore was named to the American Athletic Conference Weekly Honor Roll this week after leading Memphis with 21 points against Vanderbilt. Memphis had never defeated Vanderbilt on the road and Elmore's efforts along with the rest of the Tigers made it happen. It was Elmore's third 20-plus point game this season.
- Creighton continues to close in on the 1,000-point milestone after posting 13 points in the win over Vanderbilt. She currently is 93 shy of becoming the 24th player in program history to reach the milestone.
- Creighton posted her sixth double-double this season at Vanderbilt and now ranks 15th in the NCAA in that category. She has = 14 career double-doubles, a total that only 10 other players have achieved in their Memphis careers.
- The Tigers gladly welcomed back to the court Brianna Porter against UAB and she continues to make a crucial impact for Memphis. Against Vanderbilt, Porter scored a career-high 14 points including eight impactful points in the fourth quarter to help lead the Tigers to victory.
- With Porter's return, rebounding has also improved for the Tigers. Against the Commodores, Memphis had a +20-rebounding margin, the largest for the Tigers this season. In the last two games, Memphis is averaging over 42 rebounds per game.
