Nov 06, 2017 | Women's Volleyball
Tigers middle blocker had 23 kills, 12 blocks in last weekend's matches.
PROVIDENCE, R.I. – University of Memphis' Brianna Kadiku has been named to the American Athletic Conference Weekly Honor Roll, the league office announced Monday. It is the second conference weekly honor for Kadiku.
Kadiku's recognition is the fourth time this season a Tiger has been honored by the league. Kadiku and redshirt freshman Zanellato were named to the conference's weekly honor roll in mid-September following the Tigers winning the Memphis Invitational. Freshman Alyssa Kronberg earned the weekly honor roll accolade following Memphis' season-opening weekend in late August.
Kadiku, a sophomore middle blocker from Cedar Hill, Texas, was credited with 12 total blocks and 23 kills in the Tigers' two matches last weekend. She recorded a .432 hitting percentage and had two service aces and two digs.
In the upset win over Temple Nov. 3, Kadiku logged 14 kills and four total blocks. Her 14 kills were one shy of tying her career-high of 15, which she set twice earlier this season versus USF Oct. 1 and ECU Oct. 20. Her .583 hitting percentage against the Owls was her second-highest mark of the season.
Kadiku downed two clutch kills in the fifth set versus the Owls. Her back-to-back kills gave Memphis leads of 13-12 and 14-13 in the final game, setting up match point for the Tigers.
In the Nov. 5 match versus Connecticut, Kadiku posted nine kills and eight total blocks. She was one block shy of tying her career-best of nine, which she recorded in 2016. The eight-block performance was the 12th time in which she collected five or more blocks in a match this season.
Kadiku ranks in the top-10 in the American Athletic Conference in both hitting percentage (7th; .293) and total blocks per set (4th; 1.15). Her 114 total blocks lead the league. She also leads Memphis in both hitting percentage and total blocks. Kadiku is second on the squad with 206 kills.
The Tigers return to action this weekend when they travel to Cincinnati Friday, Nov. 10 and ECU Sunday, Nov. 12. Memphis plays six of its final seven matches on the road.
