Auburn Tiger Track Classic Live Results
MEMPHIS, Tenn. – After splitting squads between two meets last weekend, the University of Memphis track and field reunites to compete at Auburn University's Tiger Track Classic Friday and Saturday, Apr. 8-9.
This weekend's meet is the first of two for Memphis on The Plains in the month of April. The Tigers men's and women's teams also travel to Auburn, Ala., Apr. 22-23 for the War Eagle Invitational.
The Auburn Tiger Track Classic starts Friday at 2 p.m. (CT) and concludes with the day's final event – the men's 5000 meter run – at 7:50 p.m. (CT). The action resumes Saturday at 10:30 a.m. (CT), and the meet wraps up around 6:30 p.m. (CT). The two-day event is set for the Hutsell-Rosen Track on the Auburn University campus.
Memphis hopes to show continued improvement in its outdoor campaign this weekend. After a tough weather-influenced outdoor opener at the Alabama Relays Mar. 19, the Tigers bounced back with solid back-to-back performances at the Mar. 25-26 Vanderbilt Black & Gold Invitational and Apr. 1-2 Texas Relays and Southeast Missouri Joey Haines Invitational.
Two weeks ago at the Black & Gold Invitational, Memphis posted 16 top-three finishes (men and women combined) after having only four at the weather-shortened Alabama Relays. In last weekend's action, the Tigers topped that with 18 top-three performances at the Texas Relays and Joey Haines Invitational. Included among those 18 top-three finishes were two school records.
Junior Martina Rodriguez Sala and freshman Ashley Pryke set the two school marks last weekend. Rodriguez Sala broke her own school record in the women's 1500 meter run with a time of 4:20.46 at the Texas Relays. She beat her previous mark by over two seconds (4:22.72).
In only her third collegiate outdoor meet, Pryke set the women's javelin school record with her 160-10 (49.03m) throw at the Joey Haines Invitational. She topped the previous school record by over three feet (157-4). Pryke won the javelin at the Joey Haines Invitational.
On the men's side, freshmen Davon DeMoss and Jordan Wesner have paced the Tigers' early-season effort. DeMoss had two top-three finishes in the 100 meters the past two weeks (second at Black & Gold Invitational; third at Joey Haines Invitational) and also ran a leg on the second-place 4x100 meter relay at the Apr. 2 Joey Haines Invitational.
Wesner won the men's high jump at the Black & Gold Invitational and placed third at last week's Joey Haines Invitational. For his first-place performance at the Mar. 27 Black & Gold Invitational, Wesner was named the American Athletic Conference Male Field Athlete of the Week.
