Tigers Offense Explodes in 23-0 Rout

Memphis scores most runs in a game since 2003
The scoring output and margin of victory was the largest for Memphis since 2003 when the Tigers beat UT Martin 24-1.
The Tigers started the game with a bang, putting up an eight-run bottom of the first inning.
Darien Tubbs started the game with a single, which gave Memphis a leadoff base runner in the first inning for the first time in 11 games. Tubbs then stole second base ahead of a single by Zach Schritenthal put two on with nobody out.
The Tigers would go on to bat around in the inning with four more hits. Schritenthal put the exclamation point on the inning with a base-clearing double to make the lead 8-0 over EIU.
Starting pitcher Matt Ferguson would toss five scoreless innings and allowed just three hits with three strikeouts. With the win he improved to 3-2 this season.
Memphis added another run in the second inning after Grudzielanek doubled and Elliott drove him in with a single.
The Tigers upped their lead to 10 runs in the third when Tubbs walked to get on base for the third time in the game, stole second and scored on a single by Carrier.
Tubbs continued his great day when he lined a three-run triple to right-center field in the fourth inning to extend the Memphis lead 13-0. Tubbs finished the day 2-for-2 with three RBI and four runs scored. He reached in each of his four plate appearances.
After three free passes and a single continued the fourth inning, Jacob Elliott blasted a grand slam to right field that made the Memphis lead 19-0. Elliott finished the game 3-for-3 with six RBI and three runs scored.
Memphis would add one more run in the fifth on a solo home run by Carrier. The Tigers then put up three more in the seventh after Carlos Williams recorded his first career hit and came around to score on an RBI triple by Schritenthal.
Schritenthal finished the game 3-for-6 with four RBI and three runs scored. Grudzielanek was 2-for-4 with two doubles, two RBI and three runs scored. Carrier, Bowman and Little also had multiple-hit games.
The Tigers recorded three triples in a game for the first time since 1986 when they did it against Ole Miss.
Eight of the nine Memphis starters had at least one hit in the game, while 10 different Tigers had a hit in all. Memphis used 16 different position players and five different pitchers in the game.
Alex Hicks, Alex Smith, Trevor Sutton and Bryan Cruse each tossed one inning of relief and combined to help keep the shutout.
Memphis will go back out on the road, starting with a midweek game at Murray State Tuesday at 6 p.m. The team will then play a weekend series at Southern Illinois that runs Thursday through Saturday.
