Zach Schritenthal hit a walk-off sacrifice fly in the 13th inning
MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Darien Tubbs doubled to leadoff the 13th inning and scored on a sacrifice fly by Zach Schritenthal as Memphis walked off for a 2-1 series-evening win over Eastern Illinois Saturday at FedExPark.
Jonathan Bowlan earned his first career win with a scoreless inning of relief. Bowlan, Trey McNickle, Drew Crosby and James Muse combined to pitch 5 1/3 scoreless innings of relief.
Memphis starting pitcher Connor Alexander was brilliant on the mound, tossing 7 2/3 innings and allowed just one run on three hits with four strikeouts and two walks.
EIU started the scoring in the fourth after a leadoff double got the inning started. The Tigers were nearly out of the jam but a two-out double brought home the first run of the game.
The Tigers finally scratched out a run in the bottom of the ninth to send the game to extra innings. Chris Carrier singled on a bunt with one out and moved to second on an error. Andy Bowman singled to put runners on the corners with one out.
Jake Little drove in the game-tying run when he reached on a fielder's choice that drove in Carrier to tie the game 1-1.
Pinch-hitter Colton Neel tripled with one out in the 10th but the Tigers could not drive him in and the game continued into the 11th.
Eastern Illinois loaded the bases with one out in the top of the 12th but Muse was able to wiggle out of the jam.
Tubbs, who had been held hitless on the day, lined a double down the left field line to start the 13th. He advanced to second base on a wild pitch and scored on Schritenthal's sacrifice fly.
