Tigers Fall in Extra Innings

Eastern Illinois takes series opener with 10-9 win in 11 innings
Eastern Illinois managed to get the leadoff runner on base in each of the first three innings and that runner then stole second base and scored each time to give the Panthers a 3-0 lead through three innings.
In all the Panthers got the leadoff runner on in eight of the 11 frames and scored at least a run in nine of the 11.
Memphis got on the board for the first time in the bottom of the fourth. Chris Carrier singled to start the inning and Jake Little followed with a double to left-center to put two runners in scoring position.
The Tigers only managed one run out of the situation though when first baseman Jacob Elliott legged out an infield single. Little tried to score on a shallow fly ball out to right field to end the inning.
EIU got the run right back after another leadoff runner got on base, stole second and scored.
The Panthers upped their lead to 6-1 with two runs in the top of the sixth.
Memphis then put together a six-run sixth inning to take the lead. The Tigers batted around in the inning with six hits and one runner reaching on an error.
Eastern Illinois came back though scoring a run in the seventh and eighth innings each to tie the game back up.
Memphis retook the lead in the bottom of the eighth when Little lined a single to center field to score Tubbs and Carrier.
The Tigers turned to closer Nolan Blackwood in the top of the ninth and the Panthers knotted it right back up with a run. Two singles and a walk loaded the bases and a sacrifice fly brought the run home to send the game into extra innings.
Blackwood was still on the mound in the 11th when EIU got the winning hit.
