• This season marks the second straight season that Memphis and Tulsa have met on February 28 - both times at FedExForum, and both times signifying senior day for the Tigers.
• Memphis has played each and every NCAA Division I team within the state of Oklahoma, including a 20-15 mark against Tulsa, while Josh Pastner is 9-3.
• Memphis freshman Dedric Lawson is on pace to lead the team in scoring, and doing so would make him the seventh freshman in program history to lead his team in scoring.
• Memphis is 8-2 in its last 10 senior day weekend games at FedExForum
• Memphis head coach Josh Pastner and Tulsa head coach Frank Haith are two of five head coaches to have recorded a 30-win season during their careers
• The Tigers are 3-2 all-time in program history on February 28 during a leap year; however, the program is 0-4 all-time on February 29 (actual leap-year day).
• The Sunday game is the fourth time that Josh Pastner has faced off against Frank Haith, two have come between Memphis and Tulsa, and the fourth was when Haith was head coach of the Miami Hurricanes
• Shaq Goodwin stands 31 points away from climbing into sole possession of 15th place in program history in career points, passing Robert Dozier (1,381; 2005-09)
For the season, the Golden Hurricane has three players averaging double-figure scoring, led by Woodard, who averages 15.7 points per contest. Harrison averages 14.6 per game, as Birt pours in 12.8 tallies per contest. Rashad Smith averages 7.3 points per game, fourth-best on the team.
Harrison leads the team in rebounding, pulling down 5.6 per contest, as Woodard stands second on the squad at 5.2. Harrison also leads the team with 111 assists and 54 steals.
There are four NCAA Division I schools within the state of Oklahoma, and Memphis has played each one at least five times. The Tigers and Golden Hurricane have played 35 times - over half of the state series - while Memphis is 5-1 against Oklahoma, 7-2 against Oral Roberts, and 3-5 against Oklahoma State.
Sunday's game against Tulsa is senior day and the final regular season home game for the five Memphis seniors - Shaq Goodwin, Trahson Burrell, Ricky Tarrant Jr., Kedren Johnson, and Caleb Wallingford.
Sunday is the second straight year that Memphis has hosted Tulsa on its senior day, as a year ago to the date the teams met one year ago on this same date. The team is playing a weekend senior day game for the 11th time in the last 12 seasons since FedExForum has been open. In the most recent ten senior days played on the weekend, Memphis is 8-2 overall, with the only losses during that span coming against Cincinnati in 2005 and Tulsa last season. Even more in-depth, the Tigers are 17-4 in the last 21 senior day games Memphis has played in (home and road) since 2005-06.
Memphis freshman Dedric Lawson will have his name mentioned many times in the upcoming game notes, but the lead-off for this set of notes comes from his prowess in the scoring column. This season he is averaging 15.1 points, which leads the 2015-16 Tigers. If he leads the team at the end of the season, he will become just the seventh freshman in school history to lead the team in scoring. He would join the group of Dexter Reed (1973-74), Keith Lee (1981-82), Lorenzen Wright (1994-95), Dajuan Wagner (2001-02), Sean Banks (2003-04), and Tyreke Evans (2008-09) as freshman players who led the team in the scoring column.
The game on Sunday features two of the American Athletic Conference's five coaches that have had a single-season win total of 30 or more during their tenures. Memphis' Josh Pastner accomplished the feat during the 2012-13 season, and is one of just two that have won 30 games at his current school (Kevin Ollie of UConn is the other). In 2011-12, Frank Haith - then head coach of the Missouri Tigers - went 30-5. The remaining two coaches also picked up their 30-win mark in the Big 12 Conference (Kelvin Sampson in 2001-02 at Oklahoma, and Larry Brown in 1985-86 at Kansas).
Not only is Dedric Lawson's double-double total among the best in the country, and third-most by a freshman in program history, it is also tied for the 20th-highest single-season total in school history. Below is the full list of the top-20 players in single-season double-doubles.
