Tigers Return Home To Host Kansas Sunday

Women’s basketball seeks second-straight win Sunday against the Jayhawks.
MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The University of Memphis women's basketball team returns home Sunday afternoon for a 2 p.m. tip-off against Kansas at the Elma Roane Fieldhouse. Memphis has been on the road for the past two games and overall is 2-1 this season.

Memphis vs. Kansas

This is the fourth meeting between the Tigers and the Jayhawks and Kansas has a slight 2-1 advantage over the Tigers. Last year, Memphis traveled to Allen Fieldhouse and fell to Kansas by a score of 72-63. The first meeting was in 1979.
Memphis is coming off a big win on the road as the Tigers defeated Illinois 64-54 last Thursday. In head coach Melissa McFerrin's four meetings against the Fighting Illini, this was the first time the Tigers defeated Illinois on the road. Memphis is 2-2 against Illinois under McFerrin's direction.
The Tigers never trailed to the Illini and in the fourth quarter, built their lead up to as many as 18, a season-high.
Sophomore forward Brianna Porter had a career for the Tigers after scoring 12 points with four rebounds. Cheyenne Creighton, Breigha Wilder-Cochran and Taylor Barnes all scored in double-digits for the Tigers.
Creighton continues to lead the Tigers in scoring with 13.7 points per game as she has been in double-figures every game this season. She also leads the team with 7.3 rebounds per game while Taylor Williams is second with 7.0 boards per contest.
Kansas comes into the Sunday game with an 0-2 record with losses against fellow Memphis opponents in Missouri State and SMU. After Memphis defeated Missouri State at home in the season opener by a score of 69-60, the Lady Bears traveled to Lawrence, Kan. to defeat the Jayhawks, 87-64.
The Jayhawks return four starters from 2015-16, three of which have been consistently in the starting five for multiple seasons.
McKenzie Calvert and Jessica Washington lead the team offensively by scoring 18.5 and 14.0 points, respectively. Aisia Robertson is the leading rebounder with 6.0 boards per contest.
Brandon Schnieder is the head coach of the Jayhawks. Schnieder does have a national championship under his belt and all-time, has a career record of 407-165. He is in his second season at the helm of the Kansas program.
