Pitcher becomes third signee for Memphis; joining the roster in January.
MEMPHIS – The Memphis softball program added another pitcher and another early signee who will graduate a semester early to join the program this spring with the addition of Adrianna Morgan it was announced by head coach Natalie Poole, Monday. Morgan will graduate from Lake Cormorant High School in Mississippi and will join the Memphis roster in January.
"I've seen Adrianna for a few years and pitching-wise, she just does a great job of moving the ball," Poole said. "She has a great level of maturity, so I think she'll impact us right away."
Morgan is a three-year letterwinner in softball at Lake Cormorant, where she played for coach Nikki Beal, and helped her team to conference championships in four years (2011-2014) and to a state runner up finish in 2011. A four-time, all-state honoree, Morgan was an all-county pitcher in each of the last two seasons and is a four-time, all-metro honoree.
The daughter of Jeff and Marsha Morgan, she holds the school record for strikeouts in a game (16), the school strikeout record (466) and the lowest ERA (0.87) mark. She also played club ball with Velocity Gulf Coast for coach Tommy Castanedo. Her club team was the runner up in the national tournament in 2011 and in 2015.
Morgan plans to study accounting and business law at Memphis. She is currently a member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, the National Honor Society and is on the class committee.
Morgan becomes the third Memphis softball signee for the early signing period, joining Regan Hadley (Georgetown, Indiana/Floyd Central HS) and Xiomara Santiago (Cleveland, Ohio/North Royalton HS). Both Hadley and Morgan will join the Memphis roster in January of 2016.
The Tigers will open their 2016 season at the Florida Gulf Coast tournament in Fort Myers, Fla., Feb. 12-14th. There, Memphis will face Kent State, Illinois-Chicago, Florida Gulf Coast, Middle Tennessee and Michigan State.
