Women’s Golf Adds Abigail Herrmann for 2016-17

Pensacola native is first signee for 2016-17.
MEMPHIS – The University of Memphis women's golf team has added Abigail Herrmann from Catholic High School in Pensacola, Florida, for the upcoming 2016-17 season it was announced by Head Coach Beth Harrelson, Friday. Herrmann is the first Lady Tiger signee of the early signing period for Memphis.
"I am very excited about Abby joining the University of Memphis women's golf team," Harrelson said. "She is very competitive and will help us continue to get better every year."
Earlier this week, Herrmann helped lead her Panhandle Cup team to a victory in a tournament played at the Jack Nicklaus Course at Bay Point Resort in Panama City. She also won the Region 1A individual medalist honor and helped her team to a regional championship and a ninth consecutive state tournament appearance, where they finished eighth. At this year's state championship, Herrmann finished tied for 35th overall after carding a 155 (78-77). She is currently ranked No. 361 in the latest Golfweek Junior Golf national rankings.
This summer, Herrmann, captured individual medalist honors at the A. Downing Gray Cup junior golf tournament, carding a 144 for the tournament victory. Hermann also competed on the Southeastern Junior Golf tour over the summer, winning the Ole Miss Golf Course Junior Classic with a 153 and finishing third at the Magnolia Grove Junior Classic with a 148. She has posted 10 top 10 finishes on the tour since 2013.
She stayed busy on the golf course this spring, competing on the Emerald Coast Junior Golf Tour with a stroke average of 74 and winning the spring points championship. Her best finish on the Emerald Coast Tour was a pair of second place finishes, adding two other top fives.
Her junior golf career also includes the 2014 Tom Dorsey Winter Classic title and the GPJGA Bonnie Cook Trophy for low stroke average on the 2014 summer tour.
Hermann will join the Memphis roster in August of 2016. Memphis will graduate two seniors from its roster this spring – Ashleigh Whisenant and Julia Gerlach. The Lady Tiger golf team is done with team competitions for the fall and resumes action at the Amelia Island Collegiate, Feb. 22-23rd in Fernandina Beach, Fla.
