Memphis Men's and Women's Cross Country Squads Seek Win at Rhodes Invitational
MEMPHIS, Tenn. -Â University of Memphis cross country squads return to action, on Saturday, at the Rhodes College Invitational. The event marks the second of two meets the Tigers will run in Memphis, Tenn. this season.
"It's been a couple of weeks since we've raced," Head Coach Kevin Robinson said. "I think the workouts have been getting better. We still have a few injuries here and there and a couple of kids down with illness. Overall, I think that the squads are coming together and we're looking forward to racing and hopefully putting together the best meet of the season so far."
The Tigers have dominated this event in recent years.
"On the women's side, Kristen [Adams] has been the front runner the first two events as a freshman and she continues to improve," Robinson said. "The girls pack continues to get tighter."
"On the guy's side, Dan [Kuhman] has been a work horse," said Robinson. "He just keeps plugging away. Hopefully that men's group will start to close up as well. We get a couple of our guys that didn't run last weekend to step up this week and see where they are now."
The women's 6K will begin at 8:40 a.m. (CT) followed by the men's 8K set for 9:20 a.m. (CT) at Shelby Farms in Memphis, Tenn. Results from the Rhodes Invitational will be posted on GoTigersGo.com as they are made available.
"It'll be an interesting mix and I'm hoping that we'll come together and put together a strong race," Robinson said.

Senior Daniel Kuhman and freshman Kristen Adams were the Tigers' top finishers for a second straight meet as the University of Memphis' cross country teams both finished in the top-10 at the Commodore Classic.
Adams shaved 23 seconds off her collegiate-debut time from two weeks ago at the Brooks Memphis Twilight Classic, running the 5-kilometer course (3.11 miles) through Vaughn's Gap at Percy Warner Park in Nashville in 17:45.29. The time was good for 22nd place overall and helped the Tigers to a ninth-place team finish in the 17 Division I-team field.
Behind Adams, sophomore Martina Rodriguez was the Tigers' next finisher with a 26th-place time of 17:51.83.
Kuhman clocked a time of 25:21.38 in the men's 8K race (4.97 miles) to place 20th individually and lead the Tigers to a 10th-place finish among 15 Division I teams.
Drew Austell was the Tigers' second finisher behind Kuhman, placing 64th overall in a time of 26:05.19.
