Men's team takes second
MEMPHIS, Tenn. -Â University of Memphis cross country squads returned to action at the Rhodes College Invitational, on Saturday. The women's team placed first overall in the 6K, with the men taking second in the 8K.
Kristen Adams and Martina Rodriguez-Sala were the top two finishers for the women, with Adams taking second with a time of 21:44.60 and Rodriguez-Sala crossing the line fourth at 22:26.20.
"I'm really, really happy and excited for the women today," said Head Coach Kevin Robinson. Every week the girls get better and better and better. It's just such a young group. They are raw and talented. They are working hard and doing the little things. As long as they continue to progress and stay healthy, this young group of girls is going to be really special. I'm really proud of the way they performed today and to bring home the title is really great."
Dan Kuhman was the top finisher for the men, taking third place with a time of 25:13.90. Drew Austell finished sixth with a time of 25:55.30.
"I thought Dan [Kuhman], Drew [Austell], Stephen [Tankersley] and Jacob [Ryan] ran well," said Robinson. They still have some significant work to do. Overall, I thought it was a great day for Tiger cross country."
The first place finish by the women was their third in the last four years at the Rhodes College Invitational; the men's second place finish was their fourth straight year that they have finished in the top two.
Next up for the cross country squads is the Pre-NCAA Championship on Oct. 18, in Terre Haute, Ind.
