Calli Irvin Signs NLI with Memphis Softball

MEMPHIS, Tenn. - University of Memphis head softball coach Natalie Poole announced Thursday that pitcher/first baseman Calli Irvin of Plano, Texas, has signed a national letter of intent to join the Tigers in 2013-14.
"We feel confident that she will be an impactful player for us," Poole said. "She has the ability to hit the long ball, and she pitches the ball down, which I like because it keeps the ball in the yard. She's a good kid, and we look forward to having her on the team."
Irvin, a senior at Plano High School under coach Cynthia Zea, is a four-year letterwinner, playing two years at Mount Vernon High School (2010-11). In 2012, Irvin helped Plano to a 29-6 record and advance to the regional quarterfinals after claiming district and area championships. Last season, Irvin was named an academic all-district and an all-district selection.
Irvin has played club ball for three years as a member of the American Freedom (2010-12), helping the squad to a 34-16 record in 2012. Last season, Irvin totaled 10 home runs and threw a one-hitter.
Irvin is the daughter of Donnie and Danielle Wood. While at Plano, Irvin lettered two years in volleyball and has been involved in the National Honor Society. Her father Donnie played baseball and basketball at Hardin-Simmons University and is a former professional golfer.
Irvin is the second announced signee in the 2013-14 class.
