SPRINGFIELD, Mo. - The Memphis offense was held to just .074 hitting in the morning contest versus UC-Davis, and was unable to finish in the nightcap against Mississippi State to fall victim to a pair of sweeps at the Dr. Mary Jo Wynn Invitational hosted by Missouri State. Now off to the slowest start in program history, the Tigers fall to 0-7 after suffering thier fifth and sixth consecutive sweeps.

Memphis held late leads in both the first and second sets of the final match of the weekend. However, the Tigers were unable to score when they needed as the Bulldogs took advantage of six U of M service errors in the first and saw a 22-19 lead slip away in the second.
With momentum on its side, Mississippi State closed out the sweep with a dominant 25-18 decision in the final frame.
Led by libero Becky Shaffer's career-high tying 19 digs, four Tigers finished the contest with double-figures in digs. Senior Rachel Theard picked up 15 digs, while setter Christine recorded her second consecutive double-double with 34 assists and 14 digs. Katlin Inglish also had 10 digs.
Offensively, the swing of Lauren Thompson kept the Tigers in the game as she finished with a team-high 14 kills.Inglish and Carolyn Baker downed nine kills each.

Bach had a double-double of 16 assists and 11 digs, but 11 blocks by the UC-Davis defense limited Memphis to a .074 hitting percentage.
After putting up a highly-competitive effort in a 25-23 loss in the first set, the Tigers' intensity dropped and they were unable to keep the final two frames close.
Inglish led the Memphis offense with nine kills, while Emily Underwood and Thompson both chipped in with seven kills each.
Defensively, Inglish and Thompson both made three block assists on the front row, while Shaffer collected nine digs. Theard added seven digs.
