MEMPHIS, Tenn. - Kristin Chamberlain has become the second newcomer for the upcoming 2007-08 Lady Tiger tennis team and will transfer to her hometown Memphis team after spending the past two seasons at Cleveland State University, Head Coach Lee Taylor Walker announced Thursday.
Chamberlain, the daughter of M-Club Hall of Fame member Phil Chamberlain and sister of former Tiger Michael Chamberlain, a third team All-Conference USA player in 2001, was a state title winner in 2004 for St. Agnes Academy under head coach Carla Brandenberg. She finished fourth in the state in 2003 and helped her team to runner-up state performances in 2002 and 2004. She was undefeated during regular season matches from 2002 until 2004 and played doubles in the Girls' 18s National Clay Court Tournament in 2004.
"I am excited about Kristin returning to Memphis to play for the Tigers," Head Coach Lee Taylor Walker said. "Her experience will benefit the team immediately and I look forward to working with her. She certainly knows a lot about the game from her father and brother being such great players and coaches. It will be great to have two Memphis girls on the team with Kristin joining Lindsay Wiseman."
From there, Chamberlain signed with the Vikings of Cleveland State and won four of her first five collegiate tennis matches in the fall. She then posted a 13-7 record at No. 5 singles during the spring season.
In 2006-07, Chamberlain posted a 15-13 overall mark, including a 1-1 mark at No. 5 singles and a 9-7 mark at No. 6 singles. She also played some doubles at Cleveland State as a sophomore, playing with three different teammates, and sporting a combined 8-7 mark for the year.
Chamberlain joins Briarcrest's Lindsey Wiseman as two newcomers for Walker's first season at the helm of the program. That duo will join four returnees from the 2006-07 roster, with rising junior Ekin Zafir and now Chamberlain being the squad's oldest players, barring any off-season transfers.
