CARBONDALE, Ill. - The University of Memphis women's tennis team wrapped up a season-long seven-match road swing with a 5-2 loss at Southern Illinois, Monday.
The Lady Tigers juggled the singles and doubles line-ups as freshman Marjorie Ondeck was still out with an injury. The new line-up meant that Ekin Zafir played at No. 1 doubles with freshman Dara Toulch, and the duo took the Southern Illinois tandem of Jessica Flannery and Ame Blacketer to a tiebreak before falling 8-7. The win at No. 1 wrapped up a sweep of the doubles matches for the Salukis.
In singles play, Toulch got Memphis on the board first when her opponent, Ame Blacketer was unable to play singles after playing a long match at No. 1 doubles. Senior Christina Wieser gave Memphis its second point of the match by defeating Agata Skorupska, 7-5, 6-3 at No. 3 singles. It is Wieser's second straight singles win heading in to the home season finale, which begins against UALR, Saturday. The Lady Tigers will play four home matches before participating in the Conference USA Championships at the University of Tulsa, Apr. 19-22, 2007.
