MEMPHIS - After an idle the Memphis cross country team will return to action this Staturday at the ASU Sweepstakes in Jonesboro, Ark hosted by Arkansas State.
Memphis last competed in the Brooks Memphis Twilight, where eight of the Tigers' 10 competitors set knew personal bests. Emily Malinowski, the Lady Tigers' top runner this season, did not set a personal best but broke 19 minutes in the 5k for the first time in 2006. Geoff Standen and Juan Arboleda will look to lead the team again Saturday on the men's side.
This will be the Tigers' final meet before the Conference USA Championships in Greenville, N. C. on October 28, and Memphis cross country coach Mike Power is looking for his team to continue its steady improvement.
"I think the week off was good for the team," said Power. "We've been practicing well through fall break, and we need to continue to improve heading into the conference meet."
