MEMPHIS - Emily Malinowski took home the top individual time Saturday at the ASU Sweepstakes hosted by Arkansas State, running a combined 17:54 over three miles.
The meet, which was head to head between the two schools, was set in a relay format 5,000-meter race. Two runners from each team were paired into teams and took turns running the one mile course.
Malinowski not only took the top individual time, but she and senior Mary Claire Dake posted the top pairs time with a 36:16. Dake was also third individually with a time of 18:22.
On the men's side, Juan Arboleda and Geoff Standen took the second place team time, running a combined 41:04. Arboleda was third individually with a time of 21:16 while Standen clocked in with a 21:24.
"It was really a fun race," said Memphis head coach Mike Power. "It was just us and them head-to-head, and I think our team really enjoyed the competition. We ran really well, and we've continued to improve every week. I am just really proud of our entire team."
Memphis will travel to the Conference USA Championships next Saturday in Greenville, N.C. Qualifiers from that meet will go on to the NCAA Regional in Knoxville, Tenn.
