MEMPHIS-Senior distance runner Wendy Ragle isn't done competing just yet. Ragle, whose eligibility ends with the conclusion of the indoor season will run in the LSU Last Chance Meet this weekend at the Carl Maddux Fieldhouse on the LSU Campus.
For many athletes, a "last chance meet" is a final opportunity to earn a time or mark that will qualify for the NCAA Championships. Although qualifying for the NCAA's would be an exceptional bonus, Ragle has her eyes set on a different, more personal goal.
"I just want to run a sub-five minute mile," said Ragle. "I was disapointed that I was placed in the slow heat at C-USA Championships and I want to run in a faster heat where I can achieve that time."
Ragle, who holds the Memphis school record in the mile at 5:06.91, was placed in the slwo heat at C-USA Championships because when she ran that time at Arkansas State University she was running unattached. It was a precautinary move while Ragle, a newly enrolled graduate student, awaited for her eligibility paperwork to go through the NCAA clearing-house.
The meet will take place Friday afternoon in Baton Rouge.
