Charlotte, N.C. - The University of Memphis women's soccer team dropped a tough loss to Charlotte in Charlotte on Friday. The loss brings the Lady Tigers' record to 4-3 on the season and 0-1 in Conference USA.
The Lady Tigers got off to a quick start again, when Michele Meehan scored in the 17th minute to give Memphis an early lead. Charlotte scored late in the half to tie the score and send the game into half time tied at 1-1. Charlotte jumped out early in the second half, scoring two goals in the first seven minutes on Lady Tiger freshman goalkeeper Katarina Wicksell, who still managed to make nine saves on the night, the most in her young college career. Memphis would strike again late in the game, when Jessica Gjertsen took a pass from Becca Amrozowicz and scored in the 76th minute, but that would be all the offense that the Lady Tigers could muster, as they fell 3-2 to the 49ers.
Memphis returns home on Sunday to face South Florida in their second conference game and the first at Echles Field. Game time is 1:00.
